Valerie's journey to becoming a Registered Social Worker (RSW) was anything but straightforward. Starting as a yoga instructor and camp counselor, she gradually immersed herself in the social work field while also working in financial services. In 2014, she committed to pursuing her degree and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Social Development Studies in 2016, followed by a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) in 2018 and a Masters of Social Work (MSW) in 2020.
Before her social work pursuits, Valerie spent nine years working in various roles for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts across Canada, holding a diploma in Hotel Management. Throughout her career, she has worked at several social service agencies in the Kitchener area, including the YMCA Immigrant and Employment Service, John Howard Society, Grand River Hospital - Adult Inpatient Mental Health, KW Counseling, and Two Rivers Family Health Team.
Valerie's experiences have brought her face-to-face with diverse individuals and their personal stories, whether supporting those experiencing homelessness, counseling pregnant teens, or guiding professionals through loss and grief. Her passion lies in empowering people to reach their full potential, recognizing their strengths even during their toughest moments, as she understands firsthand the struggles and challenges that come with life.
